GROOM General Assembly - Trieste, Italy


The whole partnership consortium of the EU GROOM FP7 project held a general assembly at OGS headquarters in Trieste (Italy), on 4th and 5th June 2013, matching with the "project Ecuator", aiming by one hand to evaluate progress and status of the whole set of tasks that includes the DoW and establish the basis on which to set future continuity based on the results obtained in the context of GROOM.

The meeting was also attended by a panel of international experts as well as evaluators from the European Commission and other international organizations interested in the technological potential and feasibility ofthese autonomous observing devices that are gliders, as tools able to provide an sustainable and efficient management in regards monitoring seas and oceans in a global context.


GROOM (Gliders for Research, Ocean Observation and Management) is a 36 months project, with 3.5 M€ of funding from the European Commission, led by the University Pierre and Marie Curie In paris (UPMC), that involves a set of 19 partners from 9 European countries, among which is located PLOCAN, and whose main goal is the design of an European infrastructure based on the above-mentioned marine observation technology.
